We took our time showered and were having a nice breakfast at the restaurant when Rich called and said we are at the beach. Doh, I guess we crossed our wires and he thought we were to meet at 9AM, we thought we were waiting for a call on a time....doh. It takes about 20mins to get there so we set off, but there was an accident on the bridge going to the island...we arrived just after 10AM.
The weather was getting warm, in the low 80s.
June and Sandy immediately had to get their toes in the sand.
We walked the beach and even saw a dolphin. The Hilton Head beach is made of fine sand and is very firm, bikers and runners were on the beach.
We were strolling the beach when a guy on a bike yelled Rich's name, it was Kurt Carpenter. Kurt is another retired IBMer who is wintering in HH. It was nice to chat with Kurt and his wife Tanya and relive the old days a bit. It does make one think about wintering in the south.
After a few hours on the beach we moved on South, to our next stop in Jacksonville Beach, Fl to visit my cousin Valarie and her husband Mike. It was an easy drive and we arrived around 5PM.
Mike and Val have just sold their house in the Orlando area and are closing on their new condo in Jax Beach in April.
They will have an ocean view and are excited to say the least.
With a location like this, they can expect lots of visitors from the North in the winter.
The beach is just gorgeous and the area less commercial, they are really going to be happy here.
After our walk we went to eat at one of the local places that Val and Mike like, the Salt Life Food Shack, another great meal. We returned to their rented condo and got caught up. When we last saw their son Chris, he was not even a teenager, now he is married and living in Indiana, how time flies.
About 21:30 we retired to the parking lot...and because I slept so late, we were up until 23:30 watching youtube stuff....it was a good evening.
Tuesday we plan to work our way down the Florida east coast, we tried to hook up with Randy's daughter Sam but she works all day...what is up with that working thingy?
How do you know the sand was lovely?? Your shoes and socks are still on!!! You are no longer north, get those things off!! Enjoy that nice beach....
ReplyDeleteWe ate at the Salt Life in Fernandina Beach. Excellent!!
Enjoy!!!
