Wednesday we made a leisurely drive across Florida from Vero Beach to Fort Myers. We arrived in Fort Myers about 1:30PM at our friends Liz and John. We have known them for a long time and it was good see them. We rested, showered and generally chilled for a few hours before going out to dinner at their golf club for the Wednesday night gathering. We got to meet many of their friends and neighbors here at Gateway. Liz and John's cruising friends and the neighbors across the street sat at our table. We closed the place down at 9:30PM, yes our table was the last to leave. It was an evening of good food and nice people.
On Thursday morning John and I made a trip to home depot. We had some small chores to get off John's HoneyDo list. June and Liz took a long walk.
We completed our chores and needed refreshment so John took me along to his Thursday Brewery meeting.
Every Thursday John meets about 10 to 15 of his buddies at the brewery for what they call the Board Meeting.
The gathering is rather festive with 5 food trucks and several hundred beer connoisseurs. We saw a guy wearing a F35 Vermont hat, sure enough he was from South Burlington, VT. One of John's British friends, Dennis, has a summer house in South Hero, VT, it seems nearly all the people here are from the north, either snow birding or permanently relocated.
The Fort Myers Brewing Company makes some pretty good beer. Their High 5 IPA is their flagship beer and I enjoyed it. The Board members were all very nice, it is pretty clear they are enjoying the winters here in southern Florida.
We returned to home base, Liz had prepared a big meal and invited over another neighbor couple, Susan and Sal, they are snowbirds from Toronto Canada. Sal is 70ish and still playing hockey....my kind of guy.
It was another nice evening ending with a few games of 'Left Right Center', no it is not a political game. It is a good game where you don't have to think, so the conversation can go on while the game is played.
Friday, we are thinking of going for an air boat ride, we will see.
This is what its all about, enjoying the sunshine with good friends and the occasional adult beverage. Thought I would get in Liz’s pool at 80 degrees but it doesn’t feel as warm as it sounds, my toes did get wet tho. What kind of fun will we have today.??
